Uncommon Teamwork
During these uncommon times I believe that having great teamwork is more important than ever before! Our actions not only affect us, but they could affect so many others.
One of my goals has been to write a poem that expresses what uncommon teamwork is. After working for several weeks, I decided to reach out to a fantastic teammate that has a gift for writing poems, Darrell Scott. I am sure you have heard of Rachel’s Challenge. Rachel was the first victim in the Columbine High School shooting on April 20, 1999. Darrell is Rachel’s father. Rachel’s story has reached and changed millions of people’s lives in such a positive way. I have had the privilege to participate and be a small part of this journey.
Darrell’s poem is the perfect example of being an “Uncommon Leader for Success!” In order to be uncommon, you have to pay a P.R.I.C.E. This acronym stands for five-character traits that lead us to uncommon success. Thank you, Darrell, for these words of wisdom that helps to express our purpose of Uncommon Leadership.
UNCOMMON TEAMWORK
Darrell Scott 4-19-20
For teamwork to become its best
The team must pay the PRICE
‘Cause mediocre attitudes
Will simply not suffice
There must be Perseverance
And a willingness to strive
With focus and with patience
Keeping all your dreams alive
And then there is Relationship
The way we all relate
There is no room for jealousy
Or envy, strife and hate
The goal must be Intentional
With purposeful direction
Enforced by guidelines on the way
To maximum perfection
A Culture then will soon emerge
With harmony in place
And atmosphere of unity
Each player will embrace
And then there must be Empathy
As strange as that may seem
We all must work together
For there is no “I” in team
And if these basic principles
Your team decides to choose
You’ll have Uncommon Teamwork
If you win or if you lose!
