Replacing Entitlement with Humility and Gratitude
As I GET TO continue living my “Why”, (Inspire others to do what inspires them, to make a difference in this world!) I must stop and look at what we are doing.
A word keeps coming up as an obstacle is “Entitlement.” An entitlement mentality is a personality trait that involves feeling like you deserve special treatment or recognition without having earned it. People with an entitlement mentality believe that the world owes them something, and they often act as if they exist only to serve themselves.
I see this in our schools, our communities, our businesses and especially in our sports. In many cases, I believe that people are born into it, developed habits of it, and don’t even know they have it.
As we know in learning about habits. The only way you get rid of a negative habit is to replace it with a positive habit! The opposite of entitlement mentality is humility or gratitude:
· Humility
A recognition that we are no better than others. Humility can be difficult to promote in a time when people feel the need to be superior.
· Gratitude
The appreciation of one's blessings, regardless of their monetary value. Gratitude is a positive feeling and disposition that strengthens relationships and self-esteem.
We are asking you to join us in working together to Intentionally and Consistently replace “Entitlement” with “Humility” and “Gratitude!”
By join our “Team of Uncommon Humility & Gratitude,” we will come up with intentional ideas that are consistent, and we will hold one another accountable in this journey.
